day-by-day
itinerary
| Day
1: Saturday: Nairobi You are met on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Overnight stay at Safari Park Hotel or similar. Day 2: Sunday: Samburu Game Reserve Breakfast
at the hotel then check out and
depart heading north to
Samburu Game Reserve. You arrive at the lodge in time for lunch.
Samburu National Reserve has harsh, dramatic terrain. The Samburu
people said to be cousins to the Maasai are similarly dramatic and
unique. Dressed in bright red, with their braided hair and skin daubed
with red ochre, the "moran", the youthful warriors of the Samburu
usually with a spear-in-hand, are a wonderful sight.
Although
most of the reserve is arid, Uaso
Nyiro River provides a
permanent water supply. Riverine forest fringe the river banks with the
doum palm taking the day as its fruits are a delicacy for the
elephants. The animal species found here are adapted to the arid
environment, and are particularly found in the northern frontier. They
are; the beisa oryx, gerenuk, grevy's Zebra, and reticulated giraffe.
One should also expect to see leopard, elephants among other animals.
Somali ostrich can also be traced.
Dinner and overnight at
Samburu Serena Lodge. Day 3: Monday: Samburu Game Reserve Early
morning and afternoon game drives in
the reserve. All meals and overnight stay at Samburu Serena Lodge.
Day 4: Tuesday: Mount Kenya National Park Depart
after breakfast and drive to Mount
Kenya National Park. You will
arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. You spend the rest of the
afternoon at leisure viewing animals from the balcony of your hotel.
Nights here are interesting with plenty of animals coming to the water
hale to drink and leak salt.
Dinner and overnight at Serena
Mountain
Lodge. Day 5: Wednesday: Lake Nakuru National Park Breakfast
at the tree lodge then depart for
Lake Nakuru National Park.
Lunch is at the lodge followed by time to relax before embarking on the
afternoon game drive in search of the lion, leopard and black and white
rhinos among other animals. A stop at the baboon cliff will give you
magnificent view of the lake. The grater and lesser flamingos both
shade the lake pink. Dinner and overnight at Flamingo Hill Camp.
Day 6: Thursday: Maasai Mara Game Reserve Depart
after breakfast and drive across the
floor of the rift valley
climbing the western escarpment to Maasai Mara arriving in time for
lunch at the lodge. Maasai Mara boasts an astonishing amount of game
and is probably
Kenya’s most famous reserves. The Mara landscape is stunning
with
endless savannas dotted with thorn trees. The famously black-maned Mara
lions are possibly the stars of the Mara show, but cheetah, elephant,
kongoni, topi, Thompson's gazelle, waterbuck, hyena, and primates are
all here too. Birding is also excellent. Maasai Mara is the northerly
end of the Great Migration; that great primeval surge of wildebeest,
zebra and antelope that sweeps in from Serengeti as grass in Serengeti
starts to fail. As it is naturally, they are tracked by the predators
that pick off the weak, the stragglers and the young. The crossing over
to Kenya is normally in July but the whole episode depends on the
forage in the two parks. Later in the afternoon embark on an afternoon
game drive in search of animals in the savannah.
Dinner and overnight at Mara
Leisure Camp. Day 7: Friday: Maasai Mara Game Reserve Early
morning game drive in the reserve
returning to the lodge for late
breakfast followed by the rest of the morning at leisure. Lunch at the
lodge. Later in the afternoon depart for an afternoon game drive.
Dinner
and overnight at Mara Leisure Camp.
Day 8: Saturday: Return to Nairobi and depart Depart
after breakfast and drive to Nairobi
arriving in time to arrange
for own lunch. Thereafter transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport for your onward international flight.
