Mountain Climbing

Africa has
two of the highest free standing mountains in the world, Mt.Kilimanjaro
and Mt.Kenya. Mt.Kilimanjaro at 5895 meters above sea level is the
highest mountain and extinct volcano in Africa. Mt. Kilimajaro is the
highest free standing mountain in the world and
is composed of three extinct volcanoes: Kibo 5895, Mawenzi 5149m and
Shira 3962. The two most popular routes are Marangu, the
beer’
route and Machame the ‘whisky’ route. Depending on
which
route you want to use the climb can Take 4 – 6 nights on the
mountain. On the Marangu route
accommodation is in typical huts while on Machame it is camping
throughout.
Mt.Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa at 5199 meters above sea level and is also composed of three extinct volcanoes: Batian 5199, Nelion 5188 and Lenana 4985. Point Lenana can be reached by trekkers, the other two are for technical climbers. The main routes are Sirimon, Chogoria and Naromoru. The mountain is densely forested and its ecological diversity is one of its main attractions. |
